Mario Cupcakes!

Okay everyone... start humming the super mario theme song... (if you know it that is, if you don't, don't worry there will be some non-nerdy cakes/cupcakes coming up!)

You almost have to sing the super mario tune while looking at these cupcakes. I love the colours! The cupcakes were made for  the same bake sale as the Mario Kart cake.

I think the Grow big/one up mushrooms are my favourite!

Cute aren't they?  You could sure tell who the mario fans were at the bake sale... they loved the cupcakes!

Heres a few more shots of the cupcakes!

Gumbas!

The bake sale theme defiantly has nothing to do with the fact that I have been playing a LOT of mario games!

Mario Time!

Its a me, Mario!

For this semesters bake sale we went with a Super Mario theme. The decision had nothing to do with me getting the new mario game for christmas and spending a absurd amount of time playing it!

The Mario cake was actually based off of the Mario Kart Games. The car was made out of two sheet cakes carved to look like a car...

It was then completely covered in buttercream icing and then in red fondant.

here is the covered car with no decorations on it yet. I was really pleased with the car outcome. Mario was a different story. He was baked in a teddy bear cake pan and then carved to look like Mario. He was also covered in buttercream and then in Mario skin coloured fondant. (Warning... the next photo is naked mario... if you dont want to see naked mario then flick past it really fast!)

wait... naked Mario kinda looks like another character.... I just cant place him.... the next step is to add Mario's  iconic red shirt...

wait... with the shirt and the eyes he looks an awful lot like Ziggy! Next bake sale maybe....

the next step for both mario and the car are the decorations...

hehe I never knew that Mario was bald! He's kinda cute! All he needs now is a hat...

Much better! He is pretty cute this Mario... now all he needs is a sweet set of wheels....

Here is his car from the back... and now all Mario needs to do is hop on!

Perfect! He is all set for the bake sale! Heres a few more shots of Mario at the bake sale.

I love the overalls!

I was really pleased with the overall mario result.
Next week Super Mario Cupcakes!

Happy New Year!

This year to ring in the new year, my cousin from Manitoba came to visit. It just happens to be her birthday new years day! She loves the city of London and so we decided to do the London skyline with the New Years Fireworks overtop. The building were cut out of gumpaste and allowed to dry for a couple days. The tiers were assembled and the firework sprinkles applied. After that it was just a matter of sticking on the buildings around the bottom.

Cute isnt it? The top layer, and the bottom layer (behind the buildings) were vanilla cake soaked in vanilla syrup. The middle layer was chocolate, yum!

The whole white layer was covered with memorable buildings in the London skyline, including Big Ben, The Tower Bridge, St. Pauls Cathedral and of course the memorable red bus!
The finishing touch was a small amount of sparklers coming out of the top of the cake, which really resembles the London Fireworks!

Happy New Year! Hope everyone has a great year!
