Royal Icing Cookies!

I have never decorated cookies using royal icing. So i thought i'd give it a try. 156 tiny hands with teeny tiny iron rings later...

I had this brain wave while planning the grad... wouldn't each place setting look cute with a little hand cookie with an iron ring. So I got my mom started cutting out hands (there are a few left hands in there as well!) and we set to work! I used stiff consistency royal icing for the borders and the runny consistency for the filling. If you look really closely you can see that I even glittered every single ring.

All 156 turned out really well and they looked so good at everyones place setting!

Needless to say i now know how to decorate a cookie with royal icing. It is really easy to do, but i'd start with a batch of 12... not 156.

Iron Ring

Sorry for the delay in posts, i've spent most of my time lately planning my engineering graduation banquet and trying to pass school... The banquet was last saturday and it went very well! (hopefully the passing school does to!) Anyway... when you graduate from engineering at a canadian university you get an Iron Ring. All canadian engineers have one and any recent graduate will tell you that this is a big deal! So naturally the theme for the banquet was iron rings and crystal structures. (crystal structures are studied extensively in materials engineering) The banquet went really well and of course there was a cake!

The navy blue icing did dye everyones tongue blue! The cake is ment to be a navy cake (club colours) with an iron ring around it and a large crystal on top. The boys requested a fondant free cake as most of the cakes i make are for them and they are getting sick of the marshmallow fondant. The cake had a bit of trouble getting to the hall but it looked good surrounded by blue and silver candy!

Also the Candy Bar was a huge hit! There was nothing left at the end of the night! Anyway thats it for today, I do have my first royal icing cookie attempt to post next week!

Cupcakes!

Sorry for the delay in posting anything new, school and then a trip to mexico left little time to bake! Im currently working on some stuff for my engineering graduation however i'm going to post those as a complete set so for now lets take a look at some cupcakes!

Cupcake #1-Rainbow Cupcakes

I made these for my friends birthday. Her B-day is in February and she misses the summer on her birthday so i thought i'd bake her up some bright coloured treats! (Baked in brightly coloured cupcake liners of course!)

Cupcake #2 - Lions, Elephants and Monkeys? Oh My!

Last summer one of my friends volunteered her time in Africa and I made these for her as a going away present. The elephant is for sure my favourite!

Cupcake #3 Sprinkles!

These cupcakes were made to experiment with different types of cupcake batter and new pretty sprinkles! Simple and Cute.

Cupcakes #4 Spaghetti and Meatballs...

This cupcake design is from the book Hello Cupcake.. it Features easy to make cupcake designs. This one was made for my boyfriends dad. One of his favorite meals is Spaghetti and meat sauce.

The sauce is simply strawberry jam and the 'meatballs' are chocolates. with white chocolate grated over the top to resemble parmesan cheese!

Yum! Thats all I have time for today... thanks for looking!
